ETSI
The European Telecommunications StandardsInstitute (ETSI) is the official European standards body in telecommunications issues. Among other duties, ETSI develops and manages the comprehensive standardisation measures that safeguard the GSM mobiletelephone system, which include an important standard for the SIM subscriber card. In conjunction with the development of the next generation mobile network, the 3G (UMTS) network, the SIM standard has been developed further into a new standard known as USIM.
