Polycarbonate Polycarbonate (PC) is a plastic raw material capable of resisting extremely high temperatures and which is extremely long-lived compared to cards made of PVC(cf. PVC). The prime disadvantages of polycarbonate is that the material is expensive, susceptible to scratching and requires high temperatures to hot press the magnetic stripes or holograms onto the card. Polycarbonate’s long life means it is often used in ID cards.
